Well, PS5 players, it looks like Sony is back on bug-squashing duty. If you’ve been tearing your hair out over those pesky Final Fantasy XVI crashes and graphical glitches, you’re not alone. But good news: Sony just dropped a new system update that promises to fix the chaos caused by their last firmware update. Yeah, the one that made your game crash when you tried to load a save or fast travel. Ouch.

For those of you who’ve been dealing with random black squares blocking your view in-game, this update is for you too. Sony’s latest patch (24.06-10.01.00) is here to save the day—or at least, that’s what we’re hoping. According to Square Enix, the update should resolve the crashes and graphical bugs that have been plaguing Final Fantasy XVI players. So, if you’ve been avoiding the game out of sheer frustration, now might be the time to dive back in.

What Exactly Went Wrong?

Let’s rewind a bit. Last week, Sony released a PS5 system update (24.06-10.00.00) that, instead of improving things, managed to throw a wrench into the works. Players reported that Final Fantasy XVI was crashing during key moments, like loading saves or fast-traveling. And if that wasn’t enough, some players were greeted with annoying black squares that obstructed the in-game camera. Not exactly the immersive experience you signed up for, right?

It wasn’t just Final Fantasy XVI that got hit. According to Engadget, other games like Star Wars Outlaws, Death Stranding, and No Man’s Sky were also affected. Sony has kept things pretty vague, only saying that the new update improves “system software performance and stability.” But hey, if it works, we’ll take it.

Does the Update Actually Work?

So, does this new patch really fix the issues? Well, according to Reddit users, it seems like it does. One user, u/AdSweaty411, reported, “Played for an hour post update with no issues,” while another, u/Icy-Confection-312, chimed in with, “Yup no issues so far.” Of course, it’s still early days, and we’ll have to wait and see if any new bug reports pop up. But for now, things are looking promising.

If you haven’t updated your PS5 yet, here’s how you do it: Go to Settings > System, then System Software > System Software Update and Settings. Once the update appears, choose Update System Software. If you don’t see the update right away, try restarting your console and checking again. Easy peasy.

What About Other Games?

While the update seems to have fixed Final Fantasy XVI, it’s still unclear whether it has addressed the issues in other games like Star Wars Outlaws and Death Stranding. Sony hasn’t been super forthcoming with details, so we’ll have to wait for more player feedback to know for sure. Fingers crossed that this patch is a one-size-fits-all solution, but don’t be surprised if more updates are needed down the line.

For now, though, if you’re a Final Fantasy XVI fan, you can breathe a sigh of relief. The game should be running smoothly again, and you can finally get back to saving the world without worrying about your console crashing mid-battle.

A Glitch in the Matrix?

It’s funny how history repeats itself, isn’t it? Back in the early days of gaming, bugs and glitches were often seen as part of the charm—something you just had to deal with. But in today’s world of high-powered consoles and AAA titles, we’ve come to expect perfection. When things go wrong, it’s a reminder that even the most advanced technology can have its hiccups. But hey, at least we’ve come a long way from the days of blowing into cartridges to make them work!
