Castlevania Dominus Collection: A Retro Revival on the Switch
The legendary Castlevania DS trilogy is making its way to the Nintendo Switch, offering fans a nostalgic trip with modern enhancements.

Three iconic Castlevania games are about to hit the Nintendo Switch, as Nintendo has just announced the Castlevania Dominus Collection, set to release on August 27th. This collection brings together the beloved DS trilogy, including Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia. As a delightful bonus, the 1987 arcade game Haunted Castle is also part of the package.
Konami has updated these classics with modern features like save states and a rewind function, which should help compensate for the lack of a second screen—a key feature of the original DS experience.
A Growing Castlevania Library on Switch
With the addition of the Dominus Collection, the Nintendo Switch is quickly becoming the ultimate console for Castlevania enthusiasts. Other collections, such as the Castlevania Anniversary Collection and the Castlevania Advance Collection, have already made the Switch a go-to platform for fans of the series. Now, all that's missing is a port of Castlevania Requiem featuring Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood to complete the set.
Enhanced Gameplay for Modern Platforms
The Dominus Collection does more than just port the DS games to modern platforms; it also offers players several display options to replicate the dual-screen experience. By default, the action takes up the left side of the screen, while the map and character information are displayed on the right. However, players can choose other configurations, such as side-by-side or top-and-bottom layouts, to suit their preferences.
This thoughtful approach ensures that these classic titles feel both true to their original releases and well-suited for modern gaming systems.
A Surprising Bonus: Haunted Castle
In addition to the DS trilogy, the Dominus Collection includes a remastered version of the arcade game Haunted Castle. While the original was known for its difficulty and quarter-munching design, the remaster offers updated graphics and a more balanced gameplay experience. This inclusion adds a unique twist to the collection, making it a must-have for retro gaming fans.
In the absence of a full-fledged playable documentary, the Dominus Collection stands as one of the best ways to experience Castlevania's rich history on modern platforms.
